For the past few weeks 5 aspiring stylists have been battling it out for the title of The Westfield Garden City Stylist’s Apprentice 2012. Madeline, Chloe, Candice, Isobel and Mohammed were put on show, literally. Each contestant was required to create four individual looks, to be presented to the judges on event day. As the models strutted with ease down the runway in their wonderful outfits, each contender was quizzed on their looks, their inspiration and why they should be the new Stylist’s Apprentice.
May 6 saw the grand finale take place in a dolled-up warehouse in the depths of ‘staff only’ territory in Westfield Garden City. What initially looked like an abandoned warehouse became a fashion wonderland, compete with a DJ, two stages, a red carpet, pink lights and goodie bags. How do I know this? Because I was one of the volunteers who set up for the event. Setting up for a fashion event is not something that I’ve experienced before, but I now have a new found appreciation for the volunteers of such events.
All in all, it was a great day and even better night. I was gladly decked out in a staff shirt, trying not to draw attention away from the shameless beauties that passed me as I handed out goodie bags. Media, fashion bloggers, models, aspiring fashionistas and Ruby Rose all turned out in style, strolling down the red carpet before stopping to pose in front of the media wall and proceeding to admire the fantastic looks that were created by each contestant.
I must say, there were a few shaky answers however, in the end the winner was chosen upon their prospective ability and potential to grow as a stylist, not how well they spoke on the night. Though each contestant put in an awesome and extremely fashionable effort, unfortunately there could be only one winner. Candice was crowned The Stylist’s Apprentice for 2012 as well as the people’s choice award, an opportunity that will no doubt jumpstart her career in the fashion industry. Congratulations!
