Top 5 Picks for Summafieldayze 2013

sfd
THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS (DJ Set)
Regardless of the fact that the Chemical Brothers are playing a ‘DJ Set’, as one of the most successful electronic acts the world has ever seen, there’s certainly going to be the same amount of awe and rapture that surrounds their unbelievable live shows. The boys are promising to play a DJ set that takes you on a musical journey through their own personal experiences and music explorations. If it’s anything like the sets they’ve played in Australia in the past, missing The Chemical Brothers at Summafieldayze 2013 will be the worst decision you ever made.

DISCLOSURE (Live)
One of the biggest acts coming out of the UK at the moment is UK house DJ/producer duo Disclosure. Their distinctively British sound has made them a musical sensation in Australia, with the brothers’ (Guy and Howard Lawrence) recently released track Latch being described as one of the ’sounds of summer’. Can’t wait to hear these guys at Summafieldayze, they’ve definitely got our attention!

ADRIAN LUX
Most know him as the talent behind the 2010 infectious house track Teenage Crime, but the Swedish producer’s 2012 self-titled album has stacks of hits up its sleeve. His songs, including Can’t Sleep and Burning, have the perfect mix of progressive house and catchy dance/pop. Audiences keep wanting more from Adrian Lux and we’re pretty damn excited for his set at SFD 2013!

SBTRKT
The 2011 self-titled album gave us infectious hits like Wildfire and Pharaohs – dancing beats to get any dance floor started. No doubt London based musician/producer SBTRKT will be bringing his trade mark tribal mask with him to set the crowd alight when he takes to the stage at Summafieldayze 2013.

HOT CHIP
After the success of their fifth studio album ‘In Our Heads’ Hot Chip will be bringing their striking synths and flawless vocals Down Under to blow us away at Summafieldayze. Their 2009 album ‘One Life Stand’ is renowned as one of the classic dance music albums, featuring the synth heavy and instantly euphoric tacks One Life Stand and Feel Better. No doubt Hot Chip are going to rock out their new and old tracks for an unbelievable show.

I WANT MY SUMMAFIELDAYZE!

September 13th, 2012 by admin

I WANT MY SUMMAFIELDAYZEIn 2003, Summafieldayze made a maiden voyage on the shore side venues of Queensland’s Gold Coast. Initially with only 6,000 punters the festival has grown five-fold, lured international acts such as N.E.R.D, Groove Armada, and The Chemical Brothers, all the meanwhile solidifying their position as a member of the holy Grail of summer music festivals. If that’s not enough for you to grab your best neon and dancing shoes, 2013’s line-up will have you selling a grandparent just for a chance to join in the action.

The Chemical Brothers need no introduction. Off the back of an overwhelming two-year music-bender, which has included: releasing their seventh studio album Further, and working on movie soundtracks like Hanna and Black Swan, this duo was already unstoppable… and then, just for kicks they released music exclusively for the 2012 London Olympic Games. now they’re ready to cut up the Gold Coast in the New Year with their not-to-be-missed DJ Set. If this hasn’t already sold you, just check out the other acts joining Summafieldayze in 2013:

Reality Bytes

August 20th, 2012 by admin

Not quite AustraliansTo some, 2012 will be remembered as the year of the London Olympics, the year Kate Middleton finally grew eyebrows or even the year that Paris Hilton self-proclaimed herself a DJ. For a few of us, it will be the year where truly gritty Australian reality television became the talking point of blogs and water-coolers across the nation. With the absence of shows such as Big Brother and Australian Idol we were lured into a false sense of security. The potential for television networks to shift to high quality scripted shows was evident, moving away from the MTV-model of cheap-to-create counterparts. This sense of security was quickly dismissed as a herd of new shows infiltrated our televisions in speedy succession.

Earlier this year, Australia’s version of The Voice opened to huge audience numbers as the country tuned in nearly nightly to see the progress of a group of singing underdogs learning to shine under the guiding light of Seal’s nail polish… or rather a collective of local and international judges. It was only when Being Lara Bingle was released that audiences began to recognize that the minimal exposure to Australian reality TV they’d enjoyed for several years was coming to a close. Even further evidence of this has been Australia’s answer to Jersey Shore, otherwise known as The Shire.

If you haven’t had a chance to experience what is truly an academically challenging 30 minutes, let me save you the brain cells: The Shire can be described as the love child of Snooki and Crocodile Dundee, but replace any trace of charm with the word ‘like’ and more plastic fillers than Donatella Versace. It follows a group a twenty-somethings around Cronulla in NSW. A bit like The Hills in format, this cornerstone of Australian reality television caused nationwide twittersprees and almost as many Facebook status updates as the Olympic opening ceremony.

If by some miracle you have missed out following the nose jobs, bitch fights and illegal driving of the current cannon of small screen stars, don’t be too upset for The Shire is soon to inherit a northern cousin in the form of a show called “The Goldy”. Already open castings have been posted for this show that will apparently embody every stereotype and structured drama the Gold Coast has to offer in a pretty little weekly half hour package.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a number of positive attribute when it comes to unscripted shows. For example, at times they can be a fly-on-the-wall experience (think Jessica Simpson’s chicken versus tuna debate in the early 2000s on her show Newlyweds) in an otherwise highly image controlled world. It’s the sheer volume of shows that are entering the consciousness of pop culture that has become worrisome.

Whether you love or hate the newest additions to weeknight television, we can all agree that the social media engagement by audiences across the country is enough to send Mark Zuckerberg laughing all the way to bank.
